Diamonds are priced by the 4C’s: Cut, color, Clarity, and Carat weight. Each one is important in determining the value of the diamond. No one C is more important then the other, and each of the 4C’s will not diminish over time. Diamonds that have the highest combination of the 4C’s are the rarest and therefore are the most expensive.
CARAT
Carat refers to how much the diamond weighs. It is a unit of measurement. A 1-carat diamond is equivalent to .20 grams. Carat can also be divided into points, there is 100 points in a carat, as an example, a 50 point diamond is a half carat diamond. Carat is often misinterpreted for size, one 1.00 carat diamond may look smaller then another 1.00 carat diamond, but they weigh the same. This is because of the cut of the stone.
